Though I was years into using 3D modeling and animation, i'd never really made high detail model an animated it.
I noticed a real trend in modeling away from NURBS, patches and other surface simulation towards good 'ol box modeling with smoothing, such was the technology at that stage, ie; fast enough to deal with the old technique.
It was pretty much how I modeled anyway, having started off low-poly modeling for real time engines, but never on such a grand scale.
So it was a learning exercise, to build the car, apply the textures, and light it.

some time to build, mainly due to the time restraints I had while building it, which was the rare few moments here and there around paid work.
In the end I learned more than I thought I would about modeling, texturing ad lighting, and decided to share my experience by making a tutorial on the process.
After all that, i decided to make a short animation around the car, which was turned around surprisingly fast, though the renders a few hours per frame, luckily at the time I had access to the render farm at Ambience! |
