About Showcase.:
TVNZ launched the new digital television program called "Showcase", and required a solid broadcast design package that represented kind of content that was planned for the channel.

Showcase was a late night segment that showed the more eclectic and art house shows and movies from around the world, basically "something different" as the tagline suggested.

The idea spawned from the tagline, to be in a normal environment, and come across something completely out of place, different, and interesting.

Originally the idea was to go guerrilla shooting on location, but given the grand scale of the production, with the art department supplying a real sign, power and lighting to each scenario, the production was upped to be more
extensive.

The sign and framework were made exactly to my design sketches and looked fantastic when placed on location.

Unfortunately, the sign broke JUST before we started shooting, so we decided to go ahead without the real life sign and use lots of tracking markers.

The Train shoot was particularly random, as we didnt control the trains, or the passengers, and had to time the run to the train exactly.

I did all the 3D tracking in post, though we did get the sign working again the day after the shoot and I spent the next day shooting all the angles we would need to place in the shot scenes, so essentially, all the elements in the final takes are actually real.
